FAQ on EVLT, Derma Sweep and More

Vein Treatments

What is EVLT?
EVLT is a medical procedure that uses a laser, guided by ultrasound, to cause a swollen varicose vein to collapse.

Is that dangerous?
No! A varicose vein is already not functioning correctly. It's the swelling that causes discomfort and pain, and we attack that immediately.

Is this painless?
Yes. The EVLT treatment requires the insertion of a thin wire through a tiny entry point, usually near the knee. Local anesthetic is typically used, although not mandatory. The worst-case scenario is is something like a pinprick.

Really painless?
Really. For example, Advanced Vein & Laser Centre™ uses all the latest tools, including the new Cryo 5™ skin cooling system to minimize discomfort. This new technology uses ordinary room air cooled to -32°C. The air is directed onto the treatment area via a flexible hose to significantly reduce pain and discomfort.

No scalpels?
No kidding. Only an examination by a physician (part of your complimentary consultation) can say for sure, but the non-invasive EVLT treatment is appropriate in almost all circumstances. EVLT requires no scalpels and no cutting, no long recovery time, and no pain.

How long does the procedure take?
The procedure usually takes about one hour for each leg treated. Sometimes, a little more time is required for particularly large varicose veins, sometimes a bit less for smaller (spider) veins. For your first visit, to be on the safe side, set aside two hours. You'll have plenty of time to get all your questions answered.

How quickly can I resume normal activity?
Patients can return to normal activities immediately after the procedure. We recommend avoiding extremely stressful activities right after EVLT treatment, as a precaution, but it shouldn't be a problem to, say, return to work after your appointment.

Cosmetic Treatments

How does BOTOX® work?
BOTOX® is a purified protein administered in a simple procedure. It temporarily improves the appearance of moderate to severe frown lies between the brows of people from 18 to 65. We say temporary — a treatment will remain effective up to six months.

Will my BOTOX® or Restylane® or Juvederm™ treatment hurt?
The pain is minimal, equivalent to a pin prick. Anesthetic is usually not required.

Are allergic reactions to BOTOX® or Restylane® or Juvederm™ possible?
It is possible, but unlikely that BOTOX® will produce a mild allergic reaction, which will result in the treatment producing a lesser response. Restylane® or Juvederm™ is non-animal based, which virtually eliminates the possibility of allergic reaction.

How soon after BOTOX® or Restylane® or Juvederm™ treatment can I resume normal activities?
Immediately!

Will I experience any discomfort while undergoing Derma Sweep treatment?
Derma Sweep™ Peel treatments are painless. The degree of effectiveness is controlled by the varying coarseness of the Derma Sweep™ Wands. The professionals at Advanced Vein & Laser Centre™ are trained to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment while at the same time ensuring your comfort.

How will I look after undergoing Derma Sweep skin rejuvenation?
Your skin may look slightly flushed immediately after the treatment but should return to normal in 10-30 minutes. Your skin will look and feel smoother and more youthful even after the first treatment and will continue to improve with additional treatments.
